(RENO, Nev.) – As a follow up to the Lake Tahoe Water Storage Graphic, Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) recently launched the Truckee River Flows and Storage animation. Combined together, these two sites provide the community with a full picture of the water supply.

July 15, 2009: TMWA Receives Stimulus Funds for Energy-Saving Construction
(RENO, Nev.) Federal stimulus funds reserved for green projects will present substantial local benefits to Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) customers. TMWA was awarded a zero-interest loan with the maximum principal amount of $3 million through the Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Program, to partially pay for the construction of the Mogul Bypass.

May 21, 2009: TMWA Rate Adjustment Approved
Board approves new rates at final public meeting

(RENO, Nev.) – Truckee Meadows Water Authority’s (TMWA) Board of Directors voted to approve the adjustment of water user rates at its May 21st meeting. The rate adjustment for all TMWA customers takes effect June 1, 2009. The Board cited that the main reason for the rate adjustment is increased operating and maintenance expenses since the last rate adjustment more than four years ago.

May 21, 2009: TMWA Board Names General Manager
(RENO, Nev.) At their May 21 meeting, the Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) Board of Directors appointed Mark Foree, TMWA’s interim general manager, to serve as general manager. The appointment is effective immediately.

Local students show their talents and knowledge of responsible water use

(RENO, Nev.)—The results are in! More than 750 Washoe County School District students entered the 2009 “Responsible Water Use: How Do You Save?” Poster Art Contest, sponsored by Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA). Judges gathered to choose first-, second- and third-place winners in three grade categories. Creativity and effectiveness in illustrating responsible water use were among the judges’ criteria in choosing winning posters.

May 5, 2009: Safe River Recreation Important as Temperatures Warm

(RENO, Nev.) – As summer weather draws near, recreation on the Truckee River increases and Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) provides a river recreation map that includes safety tips for river use. The map is available on the TMWA Web site at www.tmh2o.com on the Your Water page. TMWA distributes this map to inform people about a variety of features along the Truckee River.

April 7, 2009: Gardening Workshops Offered at Rancho San Rafael

(RENO, Nev.) - Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) along with the Washoe County Department of Water Resources is once again sponsoring the Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Garden CommonSense Gardening Workshop Series. Workshops are held at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park and are designed to promote commonsense gardening and watering practices.

April 3, 2009: TMWA Considers Rate Adjustment
Public meetings scheduled

(RENO, Nev.) – Truckee Meadows Water Authority’s (TMWA) Board of Directors voted to proceed with the calendar for adjusting water user rates. The rate adjustment is being proposed due to increased operating and maintenance expenses since the last rate adjustment more than four years ago. If approved, the plan is for the adjusted rates to be implemented in June 2009. Customers are encouraged to attend any of the following meetings for more information and to provide comments:

April 2, 2009: ANNUAL WATER QUALITY REPORT IS CLEAR:
TMWA's water quality is among the best in the nation

(RENO, Nev.) Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) just released its 2009 Water Quality Report, an annual review required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to fulfill the federal Safe Drinking Water Act. The report is mailed to all TMWA customers with their April water bill and lists the test results from surface water and wells. The results indicate that TMWA’s water quality meets all EPA and Nevada State Health standards and, in most cases, the water is significantly better than those standards require.

March 24, 2009: Pyramid Way Water and Gas Main Replacement
(RENO, Nev.) – In advance of the Nevada Department of Transportation’s (NDOT) planned Pyramid Way road reconstruction this summer, Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) will be replacing a water main on Pyramid Way from C Street to York Way. Construction is scheduled to occur from March 30 through May 31, 2009. Motorists should anticipate reduced traffic speeds and delays during this period, along with occasional re-routing of traffic on Pyramid Way to side streets.

March 11, 2009: Poster Art Contest Returns to Washoe County Schools
(RENO, Nev.) - Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) and Wild Island Family Adventure Park are sponsoring the eighth annual Responsible Water Use Poster Art Contest. Washoe County School District elementary and middle school students will have the opportunity to tell the community what they know about responsible water use through their artwork.

(RENO, Nev.) – The Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce recently chose Bruce Gescheider, of Moana Nursery, to serve as Truckee Meadows Water Authority’s (TMWA) Standing Advisory Committee (SAC) alternate to Greg Vorreyer, SAC chairman and the Chamber’s representative.

(RENO, Nev.) – Winter in the Truckee Meadows means freezing temperatures, which can lead to the expense and inconvenience of frozen water pipes. However, Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) has provided some helpful instructions so customers can cross one more thing off their winter ‘To Do’ list.

November 12, 2008: TROA Documentary to Air Throughout the West
(RENO, Nev.) Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) and KNPB Channel 5 Public Broadcasting present Taming the Turbulent Waters, a half-hour documentary celebrating the historic signing of the Truckee River Operating Agreement (TROA), which occurred on Sept. 6, 2008. The next airing is Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. on Ch. 5.

November 10, 2008: Water Authority Staff Receive Regional Awards
(RENO, Nev.) – Several staff members from Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) were recently presented with awards from the California-Nevada section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA).

November 5, 2008: Water Recharge Program Promotes Healthy Aquifers
(RENO, Nev.) – Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) recently began its annual groundwater recharge program for the 2008/2009 season. The program, otherwise known as Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR), pipes treated surface water down into existing wells to both enhance the water resource and improve the water quality at well sites.

October 27, 2008: Truckee River Fund Launches Interactive Map Resource
(RENO, Nev.) The Truckee River Fund (TRF) has created an interactive Web map that allows site visitors to view its completed and current projects that protect and enhance the watershed along the Truckee River, from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake. The map can be viewed at www.truckeeriverfund.org.

October 13, 2008: Fall is Here; It’s Time to Reduce Yard Watering and Save Water
(RENO, Nev.) Fall is the time to cut back on watering your landscape, according to water experts. As the temperatures drop, outdoor plants require approximately half the amount of water used in July and August.

October 9, 2008: TMWA and Easter Seals Host Fishing Day
(RENO, Nev.) – Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) would like to thank its employees, Easter Seals Sierra Nevada and the Nevada Department of Wildlife for participating in the Easter Seals fishing day Sept. 23. More than 25 guests fished for trout at the Verdi hydroelectric plant pond and many caught their very first fish. Special thanks to Kim Mazeres, Pat Nielson, Jim Neill, Greg Irwin and Bob White. Easter Seals has been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs, and their families, for more than 85 years.

September 7, 2008: Winners Announced for 2008 Water-Efficient Landscape Awards
(RENO, Nev.) – Winners of Truckee Meadows Water Authority’s (TMWA) 2008 Water-Efficient Landscape Awards have been announced. The winners, who are all TMWA customers, received up to $1,000 in prizes for entries evaluated on aesthetics, efficient irrigation system, plant selection and mulches.

August 21, 2008: TMWA Board Appoints Interim General Manager
(RENO, Nev.) At their Aug. 20 meeting, the Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) Board of Directors appointed Mark Foree, TMWA’s director of operations, to serve as interim general manager. The appointment is effective immediately.

August 11, 2008: Construction Complete at Damaged Flume Site
(RENO, Nev.) – Construction is complete, and water flow restored, on a portion of Truckee Meadows Water Authority’s (TMWA) Highland flume, damaged in the April 25 earthquake. The flume and canal system is the primary source of supply to the Chalk Bluff Water Treatment Plant, TMWA’s largest water treatment facility.

June 29, 2008: Are You Proud of Your Water-Efficient Landscape?
(Reno, Nev.) – Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) and Nevada Home Magazine are calling for submissions for a unique awards program, which recognizes customers who have attractive and water-efficient landscaping. The deadline for the 2008 Water-Efficient Landscape Awards is September 5. Winners will receive valuable gift certificates to local nursery sponsors.

June 27, 2008: Water Authority Welcomes New Board Member
(RENO, Nev.) Local businessman, Tom Young, of Fennell & Associates is the new Reno City Council appointee to the Board of Directors for Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA). Young has been in the commercial real estate business since 1991 and with Fennell & Associates for the past ten years.

June 25, 2008: Construction Begins at Damaged Flume Site
(RENO, Nev.) – Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) has begun construction work to restore the flow of water to the Highland canal and flume system. The Highland flume was damaged in the April 25 earthquake near Mogul and is the primary source of supply to the Chalk Bluff Water Treatment Plant. TMWA’s engineering, operations and financial staff considered numerous options to restore water supply from the Highland Canal to the plant in northwest Reno.

May 16, 2008: TMWA Tap Water is Free of Pharmaceuticals
(RENO, Nev.) – Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) announced Friday that testing found no pharmaceuticals or endocrine disrupting compounds (EDC) in the water supply.

April 29, 2008: Water Authority Receives National Financial Reporting Award
(Reno, Nev.)– The Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. TMWA has been honored with this award the past five years since 2003.

However, Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) has provided some helpful instructions so that customers can cross one more thing off their winter ‘To Do’ list. “Taking precautionary measures before the cold weather sets in can save customers money and unwanted surprises,” said Andy Gebhardt, TMWA’s water conservation supervisor. “These tips are easy to follow and well worth the time,” he added.

November 19, 2007: Public Meetings Scheduled to Discuss Billing Conversions
(RENO, Nev.) - Since Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) was formed in 2001, the Board of Directors has reviewed the conversion of flat-rate to metered billing on multiple occasions. The Board is currently planning to complete the meter conversion, thereby switching all flat-rate residential customers to metered billing. Presently, fewer than 15 percent of TMWA customers pay at the flat-rate, with all other customers paying the metered rate. TMWA will hold the following public meetings and hearing regarding meter conversion for all flat-rate residential customers:

June 19, 2007: Partnering in Protection
(RENO, Nev.) Years of close collaboration among The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Sierra Pacific Power Company and Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA), has resulted in the protection of 3,350 acres of the Truckee River Canyon, located in the northern Sierra Nevada between the town of Floriston, Calif. and the Nevada state line.

April 20, 2007: U.S. House of Representatives Authorizes Glendale Water Supply Improvement Project Funds
(RENO, Nev.) The U.S. House of Representatives with the support of Congressman Dean Heller (R-Nev.), passed an authorization to fund the Glendale Water Supply Improvement Project as part of the Water Resources Development Act of 2007. The authorization moves forward the opportunity for federal funding. Federal funding for all or a portion of the Glendale Water Supply Improvement Project equates to savings for Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) customers.

April 2, 2007: TMWA Launches Lake Tahoe Water Storage Animation
(RENO, Nev.) A new Lake Tahoe Water Storage Animation and interactive Web resource has just been launched to provide expanded community education about the water supply. The animation, developed by Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA), focuses on Lake Tahoe, the area’s largest water storage reservoir.

March 6, 2007: Water Testing Calls Do Not Come from Your Water Company
(RENO, Nev.) - Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA), Washoe County Department of Water Resources (WCDWR), South Truckee Meadows General Improvement District (STMGID) and Sun Valley General Improvement District (SVGID) are alerting their customers that solicitations, either by telephone or in person, regarding the testing of your water at home or business are not generated by them. The calls are unsolicited sales calls regarding water filtration systems.

February 19, 2007: Truckee Meadows Water Authority CFO One of Five Finalists
(RENO, Nev.) – Truckee Meadows Water Authority’s (TMWA) Chief Financial Officer, Jeffrey Tissier, is one of five finalists for the Nevada Taxpayer’s Association’s Cashman Good Government Award. The award is given to government employees who promote efficient and timely service to Nevada citizens in a cost-effective, fiscally responsible manner.

January 22, 2007: Truckee Meadows Water Authority Successfully Refinances Bonds
(RENO, Nev.)-A successful bond refinancing for Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) will produce $760,000 in annual interest savings. Goldman Sachs & Co. was the successful bidder in a competitive sale Tuesday of the $212.3 million bond refunding issue. The interest rate is 4.48 percent.
